A building scaffold collapsed onto a city bus in Harlem on Tuesday, injuring seventeen people. The injuries sustained were described as minor and non-life threatening, according to fire officials.

Eight of the injured people were bus passengers and two police officers suffered minor injuries. The scaffolding was installed on the five-story brick building at 301 west 125th Street. A preliminary investigation suggests that during work on the elevator shaft in the building, bricks fell from the building onto the scaffolding, knocking it down, said a police spokesman.

Jennifer Gilbert, a spokeswoman for the buildings department, said the demolition project had proper permits and that on September 7 the department received a complaint about the demolition. Inspectors were sent to the work site but did not find any issues or cause for concern.
