Of the people that were the first to respond to the call for help on September 11th, 60 percent are still feeling some effect on their health from that day. They suffer from asbestos exposure, reduced lung capacity and pulmonary fibrosis. Others who worked at Ground Zero or at the landfill where debris where taken are also suffering from so called World Trade Center Illness.

Many blame the government for not providing adequate protective gear and for inaccurate reports on the air quality surrounding the site. They would like help in paying for their medical bills and compensation for not being able to work due to illness. A lawsuit has been filed against New York City by some seeking damages.
