A 25-story building was struck by a 250-foot construction crane on Saturday. There were no injuries. But traffic was disrupted in the area as nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

The crane hit a 23rd-story ledge of a building located on Maiden Lane, in the Financial District, said the New York Fire Department. According to officials, at this time it unclear if the building was damaged in the mishap.

Crews worked through the night to safely get the crane to the ground. The area was evacuated due to concerns that if the crane were to fall, it would fall toward Maiden Lane.

Residents returned to their homes early Sunday.

Investigators were on the scene Saturday night trying to determine what caused the accident. At this time, it’s too soon to speculate, said Robert LiMandri, Buildings Department Commissioner.
