Two men were injured at a construction site in Aurora this morning. They were excavating at the Verona Ridge subdivision at Indian Trail and Deerpath Road. The construction accident involved an excavator.
An excavation bucket became dislodged, rolled over and crushed the chest of a 48 year-old worker around 1:30 p.m. The second worker suffered a minor shoulder injury, officials said.
Crews assisted the 48 year-old’s breathing and stabilized him enough so that he could be airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was in serious condition, according to fire officials.
The second man was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were minor and he is expected to recover. The accident is being investigated and may be turned over to OSHA.
