A rush hour accident in New York’s Lincoln Tunnel has injured dozens of people.
Just before 7:30am Thursday, an accident involving three buses and a motorcycle in the Manhattan bound Lincoln Tunnel injured fifty-three people and snarled traffic for hours while the emergency services cleared the scene.
According to the New York Daily News, a motorcyclist was riding his motorcycle between two buses when the first bus stopped for traffic and the second bus hit and pinned the motorcycle to the first bus. The motorcyclist ended up trapped until emergency responders lifted the bus to rescue him.
The New York Post identifies the motorcyclist as 46-year-old Keith Nystrom and reports the accident broke both legs and his arm. It reports that surveillance cameras caught the motorcyclist swerving between lanes just before the crash.
52 people on two of the buses were injured, 13 seriously enough emergency services transported them to Roosevelt Hospital.
New Jersey Transit operates two of the buses involved in the accident.
The accident left motorists stranded in the Tunnel, some not getting out until after 11:00 am. It closed two of the four Manhattan bound lanes. Police cleared the accident scene just prior to 1:30pm.
