A New York City motorcyclist was killed and his female passenger was injured in a motorcycle-truck accident, when his bike slammed into a truck on southbound Route 9W yesterday.
The man, 24, was attempting to pass a Town of Espopus highway truck that was hauling a heavy equipment trailer, when the truck made a left onto Barry Drive, according to State Police. The motorcycle crashed into the trailer and became pinned under the trailer.
He was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. His passenger, 32, of New York, was taken by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center.
The truck driver and his passenger, both highway employees, were uninjured in the crash. The highway was closed for nearly three hours while state police investigated the scene.
