An accident Thursday involving four school buses carrying more than 100 kids from a summer camp left 39 children and 2 adults injured.
A representative from Camp Lindenmere told the Pocono Record that 39 children and 2 adults were transported to area hospitals after a rear end chain reaction accident of four school buses he characterized as a “fender bender.”
The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. on Interstate 80 in New Jersey as chartered school buses carried campers from Camp Lindenmere in the Poconos of Henryville, PA to the Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park in Jackson, NJ.
New Jersey State Police told the Daily Record that a school bus driven by Dudley R. Hourigan Jr. ran into the back end of another school bus in the camp convoy. This caused a chain reaction in which that bus struck the bus in front of it, pushing it into the back end of a fourth bus.
The injured children and adults were transported to Morristown Medical Center and St. Clare’s Hospital, suffering from scrapes, bruises and pain. None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to NBC Philadelphia.
The campers were between the ages of 9-10.
Officers gave Hourigan, whose bus sustained significant front-end damage, a summons for careless driving.
