Total Body Formula, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), announced a voluntary recall of Total Body Formula, liquid diet supplements in Tropical Orange and Peach Nectar flavors.
The following lot numbers are included in the recall: 4016801, 4016802, 4024801, 4024802, 4031801, 4031802 or 4031803.
The recall follows a recent report by the Florida Department of Health that included 23 cases of individuals that suffered serious reactions to the product within seven to ten days of consumption. In all cases the adverse reactions included: hair loss, diarrhea, muscle cramps and joint pain and fatigue.
The FDA is analyzing product samples to help identify the cause, including excessvie amounts of Selenium known to cause serious health problems.
The affected products have been distributed in: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
The FDA advises consumers in all states to avoid consuming the recalled products and to immediately discard any products in the home.
