Sunshine Mills Inc., a private label pet food manufacturer announced a pet food recall of its branded dog biscuits made at its Red Bay, Alabama biscuit plant during part of March 2007 after discovering the products were made with tainted wheat gluten imported from China. No illnesses or deaths have been reported, according to the company.
The recalled dog biscuits include: Nurture Chicken & Rice, Nurture Lamb & Rice, Pet Life Large, Pet Life Extra Large, Pet Life Large Variety, Pet Life Large Peanut Butter, Lassie Lamb and Rice, and Pet Life People Pleasers Dog Treats.
Six of Sunshine Mill’s private label biscuit customers were also affected by the recall. A complete list of the recalled biscuit brands, codes and sizes can be found on their website.
Dry dog food and cat food and soft and chewy treats for dogs and cats manufactured by Sunshine were not included in the recall.
The recalled dog biscuits are marketed nationwide by many pet food retailers including pet specialty stores, grocery stores and mass channels.
Consumers are advised to stop feeding the recalled biscuits to their dogs immediately and to contact their veterinarian if they have any health concerns.
