Step stools by Ballard Designs have been voluntarily recalled due to a possible fall hazard. The plastic tabs on the feet of the stool can cause them to be unstable, posing an injury hazard to users.
At this time there have been six reports of falls that resulted in two minor injuries.
The recall involves Ballard Designs “Stafford” step stools and includes one of the following five numbers: 100097963, 100099019, 100097230, 100100584 or 100102942.
The items were sold in stores, online at www.ballarddesigns.com and www.hsn.com as well as through their catalogs from July 2009 through May 2011. Photos of the recalled items included in the CPSC News Release and can be viewed online for reference.
Consumers are urged to remove the plastic tabs from the feet of the stool. Instructions can be found online by visiting the Product Safety page at www.ballarddesigns or by calling the company directly at (888) 606-2627.
