An estimated 795,000 Kenmore Dehumidifiers have been recalled by Sears because they can overheat, smoke, melt and catch on fire, posing a fire and burn hazard.

The company, to this date, has received 107 incident reports with more than $7 million in property damage. Three cases involved smoke inhalation injuries.

The recall involves 35-, 50- and 70-pint dehumidifiers that were manufactured between the years of 2003 and 2005. They were sold at Kmart and Sears stores nationwide. Below are the model numbers affected by the recall.

70-pint (2003) – 580.53701300

70-pint (2005) – 580.54701500

Consumers are urged to unplug the recalled dehumidifiers and contact the company for a sears gift card in the amount of $75, $80, $90 or $100, which can be used at any Sears or Kmart store and online. The amount of the gift card is based on the capacity and year of the unit. Alternatively, consumers may opt to request a check for the refund amount.
