Infant rattles distributed by Lee Carter Co. have been voluntarily recalled because the handle is small enough to fit into a child’s throat, posing a choking hazard which violates federal rattle standards (PDF).

The recall was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). To date, there have been no reports or injuries involving this recall.

The recall includes rattles made of multi-colored, woven plastic that contain a bell inside. “Lee Carter Company” and “Made in Mexico” are printed on a tag at the end of the handle. Photos of the recalled rattles can be viewed on the CPSC Web site.

The agency urges consumers to stop using the recalled rattles and to return them for a refund or credit toward a replacement product. For more information, call Lee Carter Co. collect at 415) 824-2004 or you can also visit their site at www.leecartercompany.com.

If you have experienced any troubles with this product, you should report the incident to the CPSC by visiting www.saferproducts.gov.
