A large number of reports of injury while using a wine bottle opener have prompted the recall of the dangerous product.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that Sunbeam Products, Inc. is recalling 159,000 Skybar Air Pump Wine Opener brand wine bottle openers because the product is causing the bottle to break during the opening process.

According to the CPSC release, consumers have reported 52 incidences of the wine bottles breaking while the consumer used the product, resulting in 22 reports of injuries such as cuts to the hands.

This recall involves the Skybar Air Pump Wine Opener model number NBSKWA2600. Consumers bought these wine bottle openers from the QVC website, QVC retail stores nationwide or via QVC television as a four-piece set from November 2010 through December 2010 for between $30 and $60. They can identify the recalled wine opener by its color of gray, blue, red or silver or black and the words “skybar” printed on the side.

Consumers who have one of these recalled wine bottle openers should stop using the device immediately and return to place of purchase for a refund or contact QVC at (800) 367-9444.
