The makers of POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice are being sued by The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for making “false and unsubstantiated claims” alleging the products treat or prevent certain diseases.
Federal regulators are calling into question research done by the company and said that there is no scientific proof to support the company’s claims that their products are effective against diseases such as heart disease and prostate cancer.
POM Wonderful responded to the allegations and said “POM Wonderful fundamentally disagrees with the FTC and believes that the commission’s allegations against POM are completely unwarranted.
“Any consumer who sees POM Wonderful products as a silver bullet against disease has been misled,” David Vladeck, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection said in a statement.
