LED night lights recalled due to fire hazard

A New Jersey company is recalling 227,000 LED night lights because an electrical short in the night light can cause a fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that American Tack & Hardware Co. Inc. (AmerTac), of Saddle River, NJ, is recalling Amarelle, Amertac and Everyday Basics model LED night lights imported from China.

Consumers may have purchased these defective night lights at lighting showrooms, hardware stores and home improvement stores from March 2009 until October 2012 for a about $6.

American Tack & Hardware Co. has received 25 reports of smoking, burning, melting and charring associated with these products.

These night lights are rectangular and either white or nickel colored plastic with four horizontal vents. Consumers can identify the recalled products by the following model numbers on the packaging or light. Only night lights with the SY symbol on the back are recalled.

If consumers find they have these recalled lights, they should stop using them immediately by removing them from the wall socket. American Tack & Hardware Co. will refund the purchase price of the night lights. Consumers should call the company at (800) 420-7511 or visit www.recall-center.com.
