The Toro Company, of Bloomington, MN, announced today that it is recalling thousands of snowblowers and mowers due to risk of a carburetor leak that could catch fire if exposed to an ignition source. If this should happen, consumers could sustain burns or a fire could start.
Consumers may have purchased these defective products from Toro dealers between September 2009 and March 2011.
Affected by this recall are:
- About 18,000 Toro Power Clear Snowblowers in the U.S. and 5,000 in Canada
- About 6,000 Toro 20" Recycler Mowers in the U.S. and 200 in Canada
According to a release by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been about 500 reports of carburetor leaks with these products.
Consumers can identify the recalled Toro PC-421Q Snowblowers by finding the following Model and Serial Numbers on a decal located on the underside of the rear of the unit: Model Number 38588 with Serial Numbers 310000001 to 310999999 and 311000001 to 311003576 or Model Number 38589 with Serial Numbers 310000001 to 310999999 and 311000001 to 311999999.
If the consumer finds these Model and Serial Numbers on a decal on the left rear of their Toro 20" Recycler Mower, then they have a mower affected by this recall: Model Number 20323 with Serial Number 310000001 to 310999999.
Consumers with a defective snowblower or mower should immediately stop using the product and call Toro at 877-738-4440 for a free repair.
