Girls hooded sweater with drawstring, have been recalled by El Gringo Imports, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), because the drawstrings pose a strangulation hazard to young children.

In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines (pdf), which became industry standard in 1997, to help prevent children from strangling or becoming entangled in the drawstrings of upper garments.

The recall involves multi-colored hand-knitted wool sweaters with a hood in sizes 1 through 10. To this date there have been no reports of incidents associated with this recall.

Consumers are urged to remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard or to contact the company for refund instructions. For more information call El Gringo Imports at (877) 278-or by visiting them online at www.elgringoimports.com.
