GE Appliances & Lighting, working in consultation with the CPSC, initiated a recall of 174,000 GE Profile and GE Monogram Dishwashers because water condensation can drip onto the electronic control board, causing a short circuit which poses a fire hazard.
Five reports of fire, resulting in minor property damage, have been reported to GE, to date. No injuries have been reported.
A list of recalled model numbers and serial numbers can be found on the CPSC Web site along with photos for your reference.
Consumers should shut off the fuse or circuit breaker supplying electric to the recalled units. GE should be contacted for a free in-home repair. The company is also offering a $200 rebate with purchase of a new GE Profile Dishwasher or $500 for the purchase of a new GE Monogram Dishwasher.
