Several children’s clothing items including hoodies and jackets have been recalled this month, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Drawstrings in children’s garments pose a strangulation hazard. In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) (which became an industry standard in 1997) to help prevent children from strangling or becoming entangled by neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments.

Feb. 2

New Mode Sportswear announced a recall of 21 Pro USA Children’s Pullovers and Hoodies.

The recall involves children’s hooded pullover and zip hooded sweatshirts sold in black, heather gray and navy blue. Brand name 21 Pro USA Sportswear and RN#92952 are printed on the label in the neck of the garments.

GTM Sportswear Inc. recalled 210,000 Children’s Jackets with Drawstrings.

The recall involves children’s hooded nylon jackets in sizes XXS-XL (2T-16), sold in various colors. Styles include Youth Medalist Jacket (YJA180), Youth Legacy Jacket (YJAPT01), Youth Eclipse Jacket (YLJA186), Youth Dominator Jacket (YJA3800), Youth Booster Jacket (YJA150) and Youth Achiever Jacket (YJA161).

Feb. 18

Bobens Trading Co. Inc. recalled 3,900 Girl’s Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings.

The recall involves Old Skool girl’s hoodie sweatshirts with long and short sleeves in sizes S and XL, sold in a variety of designs and colors. Style numbers GC5810, GV105, GV104 and GF254.

Weeplay Kids LLC, recalled 11,800 Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings.

The recall involves girl’s sweatshirts sold under the Candy Queen and Akademiks brand names. Style numbers Q37519, A22090, A393343-3, A79405-226 and A79462-1.

Franshaw Inc. recalled 2,400 Children’s Hooded Jackets.

Blue Heart and Just a Girl brand sweatshirts are included in the recall. The Blue Heart sweatshirts are style number 48053. The Just a Girl sweatshirts are style number 48052.

Baycreek Inc., recalled 1,900 Hooded Sweatshirts.

The recall involves Attitude Gold children’s hooded sweatshirts in S, M, L and XL. They were sold in different colors. Style numbers: ZZJ-2J, ZZJ-01J, ZZJ-04J or ZZJ-5J.
