An estimated 62,000 dishwashers have been recalled by GE Appliances, working in cooperation with the CPSC. The recall was prompted because the basket can separate during use and break the top panel of the washer, posing an injury hazard.
The company, to date, has received 19 consumer complaints which involved ten reports of the top panel breaking but there has been no injuries reported.
The recall involves GE Profile frontload washing machines with model numbers that start with: WPDH8800, WPDH8900 and WPDH8910. All serial numbers with these models are included in the recall. The items were sold at Sears, Best Buy, The Home Depot and numerous other retail stores.
The recalled washing machines should not be used until GE repairs the unit free of charge. For more information consumers can call GE Appliances at (888) 641-9739 or by visiting them online at www.geappliances.com/products/recall.
