The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Home Safety Council (HSC) have released an overview of drowning incidents that occurred during the 2010 summer swimming season.

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day more than 200 children younger than 15 have drown in pools and spas. This year, unfortunately, has seen no difference.

The 2010 Pool Safely Summer Snapshot on Pool Safety in the U.S. indicates that 172 children younger than 15 have drowned since Memorial Day weekend. Additionally there have been more than 180 non-fatal incidents involving children in pools and spas, according to media reports gathered nationwide.

Far too many families have been affected by child drowning this summer. We are calling on the public to Pool Safely and keep kids safe while in the water, said Inez Tenenbaum, CPSC Chairman.
