Carbon Monixide Hazard Prompts Recall Of Home Heating Boilers

An estimated 170 people in the U.S. die every year from carbon monoxide (CO) produced by non-automotive consumer products and to that end, recalls such as this one are extremely important.

New York Boiler announced a voluntary recall of gas-fired hot water boilers, because the air pressure switch can fail to shut the burners when there is a blockage, allowing the boiler to emit excessive amounts of CO poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a deadly, colorless, odorless, poisonous gas.

To date there have been no injury or incident reports involving this recall.

Consumers in possession of a recalled broiler should contact the installer or distributor immediately to schedule a free in-home inspection and repair. If the boilers need to be used while awaiting a repair, a working carbon monoxide alarm should be installed in all sleeping areas.

The recall involves New York Boiler PVCGA model cast iron hot water boilers. Below are the model and serial numbers involved in the recall.
