Suntech Enterprises has initiated a voluntary recall of Baby Walkers because they can fit through a standard doorway and fail to have sufficient stair-fall protection to prevent falls down stairs, which poses a serious injury risk to babies, according to a CPSC News Release.

To date, the company has not received any injury reports in connection with this recall.

The recalled walkers were sold in blue, green and pink and include a white activity tray. The item numbers are: WK110 or WK112. [The CPSC News Release includes photos.]

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled baby walkers. They should be returned to the store of purchase for a refund.

For more information, consumers can contact Suntech Enterprises at (888) 268-8139.

While this recall was conducted voluntarily, in May 2010, CPSC issued new mandatory rules on baby walkers that will take effect on December 21, 2010. You can read more about it here. Read a statement (PDF) by CPSC Commissioner Thomas Moore’s on the new federal safety standard for walkers.
