Black Diamond Equipment has issued a voluntary recall of Avalung backpacks in the U.S. and Canada because the air intake tubing can crack in cold temperatures, causing the unit to malfunction, posing a suffocation hazard.
To date, the company has received one report of the air intake tubing cracking. But there have been no reports of injury.
The recall involves Black Diamond 2010 Avalung backpacks. For a complete list of model names, colors and PO numbers included in the recall, please refer to the CPSC News Release.
The items were sold at ski shops and specialty outdoor shops nationwide from January through December 2010.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled items and to contact the company for a free replacement or refund.
