Alpargatas USA, in cooperation with the CPSC, recalled Children’s Flip Flops because the decorative paint on the sole can contain excessive level of lead.
Lead is a highly toxic substance which can lead to a wide range of adverse health effects, including brain and kidney damage, especially in children under the age of six.
To date, the company has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recalled products.
Flip flops of the Havaianas brand – sold under the following model names – are included in the recall:
Baby Estampas, Baby Pets, Kids Apple, Kids Fairy, Kids Flores, Kids Lighthouse, Kids Monsters, Kids Surf, Baby Letrinhas, Kids Sports, Kids Candies, Kids Fun, Kids Love, Kids Sereias, Kids Speed, Kids Lucky Bug, Kids Pets, Kids Rock, Kids Slim, Kids Wonder Woman, Kids Small Flowers and Kids Tropical w/Kit. * Havaianas flip flops without decorative paint are not being recalled.
Consumers are advised to take the recalled flip flops from small children and to return them to the company to receive a free replacement.
