Acer announced a voluntary recall of more than 22,000 Acer Aspire-series Notebook Computers. The problem involves an internal microphone wire found under the notebook’s palm rest, which can short-circuit and overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

To this date the company has received three reports of the computers short circuiting, but no injuries have been reported. The incidents all occurred outside of the United States.

The notebook model numbers involved in the recall are: Acer AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. The computer’s screen size is about 13.3 inches measured diagonally. ** Not all units are affected.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled notebook computers and to contact Acer to determine if their notebook is involved in the recall and to receive a free repair if required.

Contact Acer at (866) 695-2237 or visit their Web site at www.acer.com.
