Have you ever heard the phrase that no one likes a lawyer until they need one? I think this is most true regarding personal injury lawyers as they litigate medical malpractice cases. Doctors and insurance companies have done a great job getting their “story” out there. However, the truth does not lie with companies making billions of dollars of profits or with doctors with million dollar salaries. The truth lies with individuals whom are truly hurt and injured by the negligence of someone they have entrusted to care for them. These people are often living on pay check to pay check and the fallout from a malpractice injury is catastrophic on their personal and financial lives. These are the people that personal injury attorneys protect. In the end neither insurance companies nor doctors want to give a dime to anyone they injured. I’ve heard statements such as “it’s a statistical anomaly that John Doe was injured with a perforated bowel.” Never mind the fact that a person, not a statistic was injured because a doctor did something they shouldn’t have.
