American Pecan Co. is recalling 1lb. bags of Pecan Pieces after salmonella was detected during routine sampling by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). To this date, there have been no illnesses associated with the recalled pecans.

The pecans were sold to walk-up customers at their Yancey, Texas, location and also to mail order customers in Massachusetts, New York and Texas.

Quoted from the FDA News Release:

The recalled pecans consist of Ziploc-type bags labeled with "PECAN PIECES (Small, Medium, or Large) Ingredients: Shelled Pecans Repacked by: American Pecan Co. P.O. Box 151 Yancey, Tx. 78886 Net weight 1-Lb. (16 oz.). Might contain Pecan shells.." There are no codes associated with the products.

Symptoms of infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and generally appear within 12 hours to 72 hours of eating tainted food. Infants, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are more likely than others to develop severe illness.
