More than 4,700 sites nationwide are taking part in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The purpose is to give people the opportunity to safely dispose of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications that could otherwise be stolen or misused if left in the home.

Most importantly, do not flush old medications down the toilet and be sure to remove labels from bottles before they are tossed into the trash. For more tips on properly disposing medications from home, please refer to the article titled, “To Flush Or Not To Flush Unused Medications?

To find a collection site near you, visit the DEA site (www.dea.gov) and click on the “Got Drugs?” banner.

Last year, the first National Take Back Day, some 3,000 sites gathered 121 tons of pills.
