Nutri-Vet and NutriPet Chicken Jerky Products have been recalled due to a possible Salmonella contamination which can sicken animals if the tainted products are ingested. Humans need to remember to wash their hands with warm soapy water as they are also at risk of Salmonella poisoning from handling the tainted products.
Pets with Salmonella infections can experience some or all of the following symptoms – bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, lethargic. Some pets will also have a decreased appetite. If your dog has consumed these products or if you are unsure, you should immediately contact your veterinarian.
Several lot numbers are involved in this recall and they are listed on the FDA Website. The recalled products were distributed nationwide and online from April 2012 through February 2013 and have a “Best By Date ranging from April 20, 2014, through October 3, 2014.
The production and distribution of these products has been halted while the company, working with the FDA, investigates the source of the contamination.
Consumers are urged to stop feeding the recalled food to pets and to return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Nutri-Vet can be reached at 1-877-729.
