Lipari Foods issued a recall of Raw Sunflower Seeds, Roasted Sunflower Seeds and Snack Mixes due to a risk of Listeria, an organism that can lead to a serious and sometimes dead infection in young children, frail and elderly and others with weakened immune systems.

The affected products were distributed in several states from April 5th through June 11th 2013. In total, 52 products are affected by this recall. The FDA has a complete list (PDF) of products which also includes lot and UPC codes.

At this time there are no reports of illness in connection to this recall. The recall came after a routine sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture found that the products were contaminated with Listeria which then led to an investigation. The company is cooperating with the FDA to resolve the issue and in the meantime has halted production.

Consumers with questions may contact the company at (586)447-3500. The FDA Web site also has more information regarding this recall and also about Listeria.
