Merrick Pet Treat is voluntarily recalling certain pet treats distributed under the name Jr. Texas Taffy pet treat due to the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

To this date, there have been no illnesses reported in connection with this recall.

Symptoms include vomiting and weight loss, decreased appetite and salivation. Symptoms of neurological problem are an inability to bend the neck, unsteady walking, falling, and seizures. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

People can become infected from handling tainted pet treats. The most important preventative is to wash your hands after handling pet treats, supplements vitamins and pet food.

The recall involves Jr. Text pet treat with ITEM #27077, UPC # 02280827077, all Lots up to and including 10364)

Consumers are urged to return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a refund. For more information contact Merrick at 1-800-664-7387.

Merrick also recalled dog treats last year due to a salmonella scare.

    Some manufacturers just overlook the animals which is a reason why they do not check carefully the ingredients they use. But i need not to worry, because i just feed my rabbits with organic food while they are inside rabbit hutches.
