Hyland’s Teething Tablets may pose a health risk to children warns the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The agency has received reports of "serious adverse effects" in children and found the tablets contain inconsistent amounts of belladonna, a substance that can cause harm in larger doses. The FDA has also received reports of children consuming more tablets than recommended, because the containers do not have child resistant caps.
Hyland’s Teething Tablets is an over-the-counter homeopathic product intended to provide temporary relief of teething symptoms in children. These products have not been evaluated by the FDA and it is not aware of any proven clinical benefits.
Any adverse effects believed to be linked to consumption of these products should be reported to your medical doctor immediately including difficulty breathing, urinating, constipation, excessive sleepiness and more.
