Snow White Food Products Inc. has suspended production and sale of certain packages of “Alfalfa Sprouts” due to possible salmonella contamination, according to health officials.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

The recalled Alfalfa Sprouts were sold in 3.5 ounce plastic containers with UPC 0-46421-11236-6. The affected products were distributed in New York State.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Especially at risk for more serious symptoms include the elderly and young children. It causes flu-like symptoms including diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. These symptoms usually begin 12-72 hours after infection, and will typically last up to a week.

Consumers who have containers of the recalled products are urged to return them to the place of purchase or to discard the product. Questions can be directed to the company at 718-230-5625.

In June there was a separate alfalfa sprout recall due to Listeria contamination.
