A truck driver delivering concrete dividers to a construction site for the New Jersey turnpike died today when one of the dividers fell off the truck, crushing him.
State police told PhillyBurbs.com that 51-year-old Carmen DiLuzio, a driver for Tipton Trucking in Oxford, PA, arrived at the site near Exit 7 in Bordentown Township with five huge concrete dividers on a flatbed tractor-trailer. When he began loosening the straps securing the load so a crane could life the dividers off, one divider tumbled off on top of him.
The accident occurred just before 8:00 am and DiLuzio, 51, of Wilmington, DE, died at the scene shortly after.
The concrete dividers weigh somewhere between one and twelve tons.
"We were shocked. This guy is well experienced. He hauls these all the time," Frank Tipton, owner of the trucking company, told The Star-Ledger.
DiLuzio’s family told ABC News in Philadelphia that he leaves behind a wife and two small children.
