A construction worker on the job for only one day died Thursday after a fall from scaffolding at a worksite in SoHo.
According to the NYC Department of Buildings’ active complaint, a worker fell two stories from a scaffold and landed on the sidewalk shed of a building under exterior renovation at 450 Broome St. in Manhattan on May 17. The agency issued a stop work order at the site.
The New York Times identifies the worker as 28-year-old Adrien Zamora. He lived in the Ditmas Park neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Zamora, an employee with Bras-Al Construction Corp. who started working at the site that very day, fell from the scaffold shortly before 5:00 pm and suffered head trauma. He was not wearing a harness.
According to NY1.com, emergency workers transported Zamora to Bellevue Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
A source in the NYC Department of Buildings told the NYDailyNews.com that Zamora was standing on the stairs and reaching over the railing in an attempt to turn over a plank when he fell.
Zamora leaves behind a wife and two children.
@NYC_Buildings tweeted on May 18 – A worker falling is the most common #construction accident in #NYC. Fall protection, such as harnesses & guardrails, save lives. #staysafe
