Truck Accident Halts NY-Boston Amtrak Trains

Comments Off

All service between New York and Boston was halted on Friday after a tractor-trailer struck and damaged a power system.

The suspension added to an already problematic commute for many, coming on top of heat-related delays along other lines.

Crews were working to restore power and expected service to resume at some point on Saturday, according to an Amtrak spokesman.

The accident happened on Friday, when a tractor-trailer traveling on Middleton Avenue in New Haven, veered off the roadway and struck an overhead power system, officials said.

The cause of the accident was unclear. New Haven police are investigating the accident. They did not immediately release information, including the truck driver’s condition.

Passengers affected by cancellations were offered refunds by Amtrak. Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL for more information if needed.
