Slush Causes Spike In Elderly Slip And Fall Patients

Comments Off

Slushy sidewalks are hard to avoid this time of the year, and for some it can be life-threatening. In fact, emergency rooms have seen a spike in elderly slip and fall patients.

The most common injuries are to the hand, elbow and shoulder. And, head injuries for those whose reflexes were too slow.

Most important, says E.R. Dr. Michael Stern of NY-Presbyterian Hospital, is to move slowly. And to make sure you’re wearing footwear that doesn’t easily slip.

If you have slipped or fallen in icy conditions, it is important to seek emergency medical treatment as soon as possible to determine the severity of your injuries.
