A former Waters of Orchard nursing home aide has been sentenced to the next 16 months to four years in prison for stealing $8,000 from a 97-year-old nursing home patient.
The aide, 22, a former drug addict, of Buffalo, pled guilty in May to fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree attempted forgery for stealing $8,000 from a patient. She was fired from her job.
Friday, the State Supreme Court imposed the maximum sentence saying he found such abuse of elderly nursing home patients out of control in western New York and felt he need to send the message loud and clear that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.
The defense attorney hoped for probation, he plans to appeal the sentence as excessive.
