Comments Off

Consumers in the metropolitan New York area are being warned to avoid certain “Queso Fresco, Fresh Cheese” products made by Mexicali Cheese Corp., due to a possible Listeria contamination.

The recalled items are packaged in a rigid 14 oz. plastic tub with plant number 36-0128 and a code of 071512. All products with this coding are affected by the recall. The following product names are also affected: Mexicali Queso Fresco Mexicano, Mexican Style Fresh Cheese; or Acatlan Queso Fresco, Fresh Cheese.

Listeria can cause foodborne illnesses in anyone that consumes a contaminated item. While healthy individuals are rarely at serious risk, pregnant women and those with a weakened immune system need to be particularly careful. For more information, please visit the FDA Web site.

Dole Fresh Vegetables also recently recalled some bags of lettuce due to possible listeria contamination.
