Suzuki Motorcycles Recalled Due To Electrical Issue

Comments Off

A recall of more than 70,000 motorcycles from the 2008-2010 model years has been issued by American Suzuki due to an electrical issue.

Twelve different models are affected by the recall. A complete list of model numbers can be found on Motorcycle.com.

The regulator and rectifier assemblies on certain models may lack sufficient adhesion between the power module and the rectifier case. As the power module heats up, the circuit board may deform, causing the module to lift off from the case. This can cause excessive heat and uncontrolled electric current output, affecting the discharge of the battery and potentially leading the engine to stall or fail to start.”

Paperwork filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that American Suzuki was first notified of this issue in July 2008 and tried to solve the problem with its parts supplier prior to issuing a recall. Last September the investigation was reopened after receiving more than 180 reports of failure from its American dealers.

Suzuki is replacing the part free of charge on affected models.
