An ingestion hazard prompted the voluntary recall of magnets from Design Ideas and Neatlife rubber ducky magnets and Design Ideas blowfish and splat magnets.

To this date there have been no injury reports associated with this recall. Consumers are urged to return the magnets to Design Ideas for a refund.

If swallowed, the small magnets can link together inside a child’s intestines and can lead to serious health concerns including intestinal obstructions, sepsis and in some cases even death. Internal injuries caused by magnets can lead to serious lifelong health problems. It is for this reason that the CPSC warns that children younger than six should not play with magnets.

This recall involves miniature office and refrigerator magnets sold in duck, blowfish and splat shapes with the following model numbers.

3205121 (duck)

3205122 (blowfish)

3205078 (splat)

For additional information about this recall consumers should call Design Ideas at 800.426.6394 or by visiting their site at www.designideas.net and look for the “Safety Notices and Patents” information.

While this recall does not involve an injuries or incidents, if your child swallows a magnet or it becomes stuck in the ear or nose, take them to a poison control center immediately. Do not try to induce omitting or give food and/or drinks. If the child is having difficulty breathing, 911 should be called.
