ThinkPad notebook computer battery packs have been recalled by Lenovo, in cooperation with the CPSC, in Canada and the U.S. because they have the potential to overheating, posing a fire hazard.
To this date the company has received two reports of the battery packs overheating which has caused damage to the computer as well as the battery pack and also nearby property. But there has been no reported injuries or incidents associated with this recall.
This recall involves Lenovo battery packs that coincide with the following computers:
The Edge 11, 13 and 14 series
The T410, T420, %510 and W510 series
The X100e, X120e, X200, X201 and X201s series
The battery packs were sold separately at computer and electronic stores as well as Lenovo and have one of the following part numbers starting with the fourth digit in the series: 42T4695, 42T4711, 42T4798, 42T4804, 42T4812, 42T4822, 42T4828, 42T4834, 42T4840 and 42T4890.
The agency urges consumers to immediately power-off their notebook computer and remove the batter pack until they can contact Lenovo for a free replacement. The device can still be used with the AC adapter and power cord if the battery pack is not attached.
