Parents and caregivers of infants and young children should be aware of a recall involving two phil&teds brand jogging strollers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that phil&teds USA Inc, of Fort Collins, CO, is voluntarily recalling these strollers because the company has received three reports of injury to adults using the strollers, two of lacerations and another of fingertip amputation.

According to the CPSC release, a user can get their finger caught in the hinge mechanism when folding and unfolding the stroller.

Affected by this recall are the sport V2 and classic V1 model single seat jogging strollers. Consumers may have purchased the strollers at specialty juvenile stores nationwide between May 2008 and July 2010 for $350 – $450.

Consumers can identify the recalled strollers by the phil&teds logo on the crotch piece of the harness and the serial numbers 0308/0001 to 0510/0840 for the sport V2 and serial numbers 0308/0001 to 0510/0906 for the classic V1 located on the inside of the folding hinge.

“phil&teds takes product safety and safe use seriously. We take the utmost care in designing products to meet or exceed safety standards all over the world. We are extremely proud of our safety record, our proactive approach to product management, and our long-term relationship with parents, all over the world. Sometimes, new concerns arise outside the testing and production framework that require immediate attention,” phil&teds website said. “Consistent with our unwavering commitment to safety we are providing consumers with notice of a voluntary recall to repair and upgrade the discontinued sport v2 and classic v1 strollers, manufactured between March 2008 and June 2010.”

The recall affects 22,000 strollers in the United States and 7,200 in Canada.

Consumers should stop using these strollers and contact phil&teds USA at (877) 432-1642 to arrange for the shipping of a free hinge-cover kit and repair instructions or order the kit online here.
