Mazda Recalls Tribute SUVs

Comments Off

More than 52,000 Tribute compact sport-utility vehicles from the 2001 and 2002 model years have been recalled by Mazda due to a brake fluid leak, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety System (NHTSA).

NHTSA said the brake master cylinder reservoir cap can leak fluid, which may corrode the anti-lock braking system module’s wiring harness and cause melting, smoking or possibly even fire.

The vehicle’s build date can be found inside the driver-side doorjamb to determine if your vehicle is affected by this recall.

The automaker has begun notifying consumers about the recall. Dealers will fix the issue free of charge. But, owners are urged to park the vehicles outside, to prevent an indoor fire, until the fix can be made.

For additional information, owners can contact Mazda directly at 800-222-5500 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

Earlier this month, Ford Motor Co. recalled more than 244,000 Escape SUVs made during the same model years for the same problem.
