Massive New Recall Announced By Toyota

Comments Off

Toyota, one of the world’s largest automakers, announced a recall of more than 6 million vehicles worldwide for problems with nearly 30 models. Some were recalled for more than one concern.

To date, there has been no injuries reported, but there has been two fires related to a defective engine starter that can keep the motor running. The automaker says it also needs to replace a spiral cable that could be damaged when the steering wheel is turned, causing the airbag to fail to activate if a crash occurs.

In other news, NHTSA is fining General Motors $7,000 a day for failing to respond to requests for information regarding a faulty ignition switch. The deadline was April 3. The defective switch has been linked to 13 deaths and led to a recall 2.6 million vehicles.

For the latest Toyota recall, certain model years for these vehicles sold in the U.S. are included:

2009-2010 Corolla

2009-2010 Matrix

2008-2010 Highlander

2009-2010 Tacoma

2006-2008 RAV4

2006-2010 Yaris

2008-2010 Scion xD
