Jeeps Recalled By Chrysler

Comments Off

It was down to the wire when Chrysler Group agreed to initiate a recall of 2.7 million Jeeps after initially denying the vehicles posed a high risk of fire when struck from behind, claiming they were safe.

The company released a statement that said it would recall the vehicles for inspection, and, in “some cases”, it will “provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle to better manage crash forces in low-speed impacts.”

Further, Chrysler acknowledges that the matter has customers concerned and wanting the company to take further action, in coordination with the NHTSA.

The NHTSA will continue overseeing the issue and urges consumers to have their vehicles inspected immediately upon receiving notification from Chrysler of the recall. Not all 2.7 million Jeeps will need repair.

Chrysler was facing high-profile hearings that would have hurt the company’s reputation had they not decided in the final hours to agree to the recall.
